This policy explains what information Color Checkers (colorcheckers.io) collects, how we use it, and who we share it with. The site is operated by Color Checkers as a hobby project. Questions? Email [email protected].

What we collect

• Account data — when you sign up, we store your chosen username, your email address, and either a salted password hash or an identifier from Google/Apple if you used social sign-in.
• Guest data — if you play without signing up, we set a random anonymous cookie (rp_guest_id) and assign you a randomly generated handle like player7421. No personal information is collected for guests.
• Game data — the moves you make, who you played against, custom rule sets you create, and the outcome of each game.
• Technical data — your IP address, browser user-agent, and the pages you visit are recorded in standard web server logs for security and debugging. Logs are retained no longer than 90 days.

Cookies we use

• sessionid — Django session cookie. Required to stay signed in or to keep your active game.
• csrftoken — Protects against cross-site request forgery. Required.
• rp_guest_id — Anonymous identifier so guest profiles persist across visits.
• rp_guest_seen — Records that you have dismissed the welcome modal.

We do not use third-party tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies at this time.

How we use your information

• To run the game itself: authenticate you, save your games, show you your history and friends list.
• To send transactional emails such as password reset, email verification, or game invitations you initiate.
• To keep the service secure: detect abuse, debug errors, throttle suspicious traffic.

We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

Who we share data with

• Cloudflare — proxies and protects all traffic to colorcheckers.io. Cloudflare sees request metadata including your IP address. Cloudflare privacy policy.
• Google Workspace (Gmail SMTP) — delivers transactional emails from [email protected]. Google privacy policy.
• Google Sign-In — only if you choose to sign in with Google; Google sends us your name and email address.
• Sign in with Apple — only if you choose to use it; Apple sends us your name and (real or relayed) email address.

Advertising

The site currently does not display advertisements. If we add ads in the future (for example, Google AdSense), we will update this policy in advance, the cookie banner will list any new cookies, and ad partners will collect data subject to their own privacy policies.

Your rights

You can delete your account at any time by emailing [email protected]. We will remove your personal data within 30 days, retaining only what is necessary to defend ourselves against past abuse claims, if any. Visitors in the EU, UK, or California also have rights of access, correction, and portability under the GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA — email the same address to exercise them.

Children

Color Checkers is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the site at least 14 days before they take effect.
